Offensive Pentesting – TryHackMe – July 2023

No matter where I was, the skills and requirements for becoming a penetration tester was the same. I was required to have a good understanding of various aspects within information security including web applications, networks and sometimes even low level technology like assembly. A good understanding of these technologies is essential to learning how to exploit them.

The aim of this path was to make me ready for real world penetration testing by teaching me how to use industry standard tools along with a methodology to find vulnerabilities in machines. By the time I completed this path, I was able to be well prepared for interviews and jobs as a penetration tester. To complete this path I must have a basic to medium understanding of computing.

I used this path to help myself acquire the skills needed to go and get certified by well known certifiers in the security industry.

Prerequisites

I needed to be comfortable with web application security and network security to complete this. I have already completed the Junior Penetration Tester as listed in my certifications list.

CompTIA PenTest+ – TryHackMe – July 2023

This PenTest+ path allowed me to practice the majority of practical skills required for the CompTIA PenTest+ exam. In this I learned about

  • Industry standard penetration testing tools
  • Identifying and exploiting different network services
  • Exploiting web applications through today’s most common vulnerabilities
  • Understanding Windows active directory and attacking Kerberos
  • Post exploitation techniques (with Powerview, Bloodhound and Mimikatz)

CompTIA PenTest+ is for cybersecurity professionals tasked with penetration testing and vulnerability management.

Prerequisites

I needed to have a basic understand of fundamental computing principles and have studied the theoretical knowledge in the CompTIA PenTest+ syllabus to complete this.

Red Teams – TryHackMe – July 2023

The aim of this path was to show me how to emulate a potential adversary attack in complex environments. Going beyond penetration testing, I  learned to conduct successful Red Team engagements and challenge the defense capability of my clients.

After completing this path, I have the advanced skills needed to pursue new career opportunities in offensive security.

Prerequisites

I needed to be comfortable with web application security and network security to complete this. I already have these prerequisites, a completed the Junior Penetration Tester certificate as listed in my certifications list.

Jr Penetration Tester – TryHackMe – March 2023

This learning path covers the core technical skills that allow me to succeed as a junior penetration tester. Now that I have completed this path, I have the practical skills necessary to perform security assessments against web applications and enterprise infrastructure.

Prerequisites

I needed a basic understanding of fundamental computing principles and a broad understanding of the different areas of cyber security to complete this. I have  already met these prerequisites, by completing the Pre-Security  and Intro To Cyber Security as listed in my certifications list.
